Ex Parte General Information
Below are a few frequently asked question with generalized answers about ex parte protection orders. What is an ex parte protection order? An ex parte is a temporary protection order granted to the petitioner which is valid in every US state and upheld by law enforcement until a court hearing which will be set within 15 days of the original file date. The ex parte bars an abuser from committing domestic violence or stalking the petitioner, enter the home, work or school of the petitioner and communicating with the petitioner through any medium.
Who can file for an ex parte? Any Person over the age of 17, or otherwise emancipated, who has been a victim of abuse by a present or past family or household member or a significant or intimate partner OR who has been the victim of stalking or sexual assault mays seek relief. A parent, guardian or court-appointed special advocate may apply for protection for anyone under the age of 17.
Where can I get the paperwork to file for an ex parte protection order? You may obtain the paperwork at the Greene County Judicial Facility - 2nd Floor, Greene Circuit Clerk’s office, 1010 N. Boonville, Springfield, MO 65802 OR alternatively, you may find the adult and child(ren) forms by clicking >here.
Where can I file and ex parte protection order? You may file IN PERSON, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m with the exceptions of holidays, at the Greene County Circuit Clerk’s office located at 1010 N. Boonville, Springfield, MO 65802. (Between 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. only fully completed form will be accepted.)

They provide 24-hour crisis response and assistance by a trained Volunteer Victim Advocate or professional staff member.
How much does it cost to file an ex parte order of protection? There is not filing fee to file for an ex parte protection order.
What is the process for getting an ex parte protection order issued? Once your paperwork is filled out and SUBMITTED to the Circuit Clerk’s office in person or electronically, per our webpage, a judge will review your request. If your request is approved, you may return to the Circuit Clerk’s office to pick up a copy of your order OR if you filed electronically you may print your own copy. Please note on your order, there will be a court date set for your case and you will have to appear in court on that date. Failure to appear at your given court date may result in an immediate dismissal or denial of a full order of protection being put in place.

Anyone in Greene County who is in danger because of domestic violence, stalking or sexual assault can call our community-wide HOTLINE (417) 864-7233 (SAFE). You will be able to seen emergency domestic violence shelter from the Harmony House or assistance from an advocate and free trauma-focused therapy from The Victim Center through this hotline.
